About Jon Kim
Dr. Jon Kim, DVM, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida. He earned his DVM from Konkuk University in South Korea. He received his Ph.D in Veterinary Pathology from the same school, where he established veterinary and comparative oncology research. He completed a post-doctoral work at University of Minnesota and Masonic Cancer Center, and established independent comparative oncology research program. As a faculty member of the UF AI Initiative, Dr. Kim focuses on developing novel diagnostic and clinical applications in the fields of comparative oncology and translational medicine by utilizing AI and machine learning. His primary research interest is to define fundamental mechanisms of cancers, particularly soft tissue sarcomas and bone malignancies such as angiosarcoma and osteosarcoma. These tumors occur naturally in companion dogs, and his team is dedicated to revolutionizing comparative oncology research to improve human and animal health.

Teaching Philosophy
My teaching and mentoring philosophy involves understanding a variety of students and helping them achieve a high level of education and successful career goals within the given educational conditions. The philosophy includes nurturing students in both biology and non-biology fields to enrich their experiences through technical development or efficient deployment. The goal is not merely for students to acquire multiple skills, as technology continually evolves. Instead, it is for students to establish smooth and constructive adaptation to new technology, which can make their studies, jobs and lives abundant and enjoyable. Spring and Fall 2023: EGN 4912 – Engineering Undergraduate Research; Fall 2023: VME 7979 – Advanced Research
